FM 16 - Admin Console No Longer Appears in Browser

ON the server, the Admin Console No Longer Appears in the Browser.  Could it be because of a Java or Windows upgrade?  Using FM server 16.0.3

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

No error, just a blank white screen.  Here is the location in the browser:

FileMaker launches a JAVA application that executes immediately after you access the page.. This issue is a problem with JAVA on the server or workstation trying to access the page.  Please check the JAVA version and update if necessary it could be disabled on the box you are attempting to access the page from.

Looked under every tab, especially Advanced under IE's "Internet Options" and couldn't find any setting for Java.  BTW, also tried opening the link in another browser with no luck.

How about another computer?

It's local to our Apps Server.  Won't open on another PC or server.

@RV,

Please go to JAVA.com and check the version of JAVA installed on that machine. If it doesn't have JAVA installed then install the application and then test and make sure it is active and available.

Checked and I got a prompt saying I have the latest version, so maybe Windows needs to be updated.  I noticed there are 2 downloads waiting.

I also wonder if I'm going to have to either roll back a java update or update FM server from 16.0.3 to 16.0.4

The problem is most likely that you have/had Java Automatic updates turned on. Despite the latest version of FM Server being written in HTML5 it still has some dependencies on Java and Java will automatically be installed or updated when running FM Server updates. Having the "latest" version is often the problem. When updating to the most recent version of FM Server, the installer will install the required version of Java, UNLESS, the current version is already higher.

Go to the Java Control panel and determine what version of Java you have installed. FMS 16.0.4 installs/uses Java 8 Update 161. If you have a higher version, you will need to uninstall it and then download and install Update 161, downloaded from Oracle's website. Be sure to restart the machine between uninstall and re-install of Java. You can also uninstall FM Server AND Java (all versions), restart and re-install FMS and it will install the correct version of Java.

I have already seen issues with 16.0.4 and Java higher than 161 on at least one other machine. Be sure to turn off Automatic updates for Java in the Java control panel.

Thanks Will, that was it.  Somehow Java was upgraded to 171 so I uninstalled it, then installed a FM upgrade from 16.0.3 to 16.0.4, and as you said FM installed the correct java version (Java 8 161).  Able to access the Admin Console.  (Note:  tried to give assisted solutions, but no button for it, only button for "Best Solution."
