Changing og:image tag for a Wordpress post already posted on Facebook

If I post a link to my Wordpress blog post on Facebook it will pick up a photo tagged with the og:image tag. I would like to know what happens if I change the tag to a different photo (using Yoast). Will this also change photos on my existing Facebook posts or they will still show the photo that was current at the time of posting?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

If I recall correctly, the images on Facebook and Twitter posts are cached. They don't get updated dynamically.

So once an image is pulled from an og:image tag into a post/tweet, it will always be that image, no matter if you change the original image, delete it, etc.

They do change their technology though, so that could be old news. You may want to test it out with a dummy post.

Here is what FB says in their webmaster guidelines:
https://developers.facebook.com/docs/sharing/webmasters

URL for the image. To update an image after it's been published, use a new URL for the new image. Images are cached based on the URL and won't be updated unless the URL changes.
