Help me setup Wordpress site (using SiteOrigin Plugins or other)

I am new to wordpress and want to get my site up and customise it as quickly as possible. Are there people I can Chat to about this on Experts Exchange? Initially I need to remove the control bar from the Video widget from the Site Origin Widgets Bundle.

Sure, I would be happy to help if I can.  1. What is the URL? 2. What exactly is it that you want to change first?

Hi. Thanks a lot.

My site is:
https://cashmerestudio.000webhostapp.com/

Initially I need help with the following;
-Change background image on homepage to get my “Pique” theme looking more like the demo version: https://wordpress.com/theme/pique
-Resize my youtube videos on the “Video" page to be same size as the top 2 self hosted videos.
-And a number of other actions I am also a bit stuck on..

How exactly does this work? Am I able to IM with you or is it just a thread? What is the Rewards system mentioned?
Hi. Does anyone have an answer to this? thanks

if you go to this link https://wordpress.com/theme/pique
and click on "overview"  and scroll down to "Setting Up Your Front Page" and "Front Page Content" and "Adding Panels"
are all explained.

now you have asked the question you'll get replies and when one of them solves your problem you give that reply  points to close the question
Hi Josh,

In a forum like this, it is best to attack one thing at a time per question where you ask one question, get it answered and move on. That way the thread stays focused, Experts are more likely to respond and it will be less confusing by talking about just one item. As you can imagine, it would be easy to fill up 30 to  50 posts in a question all talking about different aspects and that makes it hard to keep track of.

There is a feature to allow you to work one on one with Experts.  You may see a, "Connect with me" link next to some Experts names. That indicates we are willing to take Live requests. You can also go directly to https://www.experts-exchange.com/live/ to find one on one help.  You can also message some Experts if you like.

For this question thread, which aspect do you want?   When you ask, "-Change background image on homepage to get my “Pique” theme looking more like the demo version: https://wordpress.com/theme/pique".  Are you referring to the parallax effect where there is a background image that appears to stay put as other images scroll up?
Thanks for your replies. I took a look at the theme overview documentation;

I have now setup the homepage to be a single panel.
I have set a background Image. I can see it whilst the page is loading but then it gets covered once the page has loaded by the solid green background colour. I can't for the life of me figure out how to remove this green background!

Scott, would I be correct by thinking that you are the only WP Expert here (or of the ones connected to my request) who is available to connect 1:1 inclusive in my monthly EE subscription, without paying extra by the minute? You are the only person in the chat window who has a golden X by their name. How often are you available to chat?
That color is in the css
.pique-panel {
	background-color: #293940;
	margin: 0;
	min-height: 60vh;
	position: relative;
	width: 100%;
}

Open in new window

Without loading that same theme to see directly where you do this, look for a setting for the panel.  Otherwise, in your childtheme css, you can add a new style for .pique-panel with the color you want.

https://codex.wordpress.org/Child_Themes
I would guess the pique panel setting (green colour)  is created dynamically when you customise the theme in the customiser section of the appearance.  go through the appearance ->customise->  blah blah  and     try changing colours etc and see what you get.
the theme owner will probably have a set of setting to load to recreate the demo version
Were you able to find the panel settings?
the link I gave you above has instructions on changing the "solid green colour"

see on setting up and "adding a panel" scroll passed the pictures and the 4 point it then says:

"You can also adjust the background color, and the opacity of your featured image on top of that color, allowing you fine-tuned control over your page’s appearance."

you have to change the "opacity"  down/up until the image is clear
Hi guys. So it was confusding but I found it. As a newb to WP admin I was looking for some sort of "Homepage background image" option in the main Customise menu next to "Header Image", "Background Image", etc. It turned out the background image option was buried at the bottom of the Page edit page beneath the fold. Page > Homepage > Set Featured Image.

It was also complicated; by default the homepage of the them was set to the blog post page for showing recent posts. So I had to create a new standard text page called Homepage and assign it to panel 1.
Thanks for the help anyway.

Scott, were you able to answer the following?;

Josh, to keep the thread in the scope of asking about your specific question on adjusting the background color, I will respond to you via the messaging system.
