Renamed exchnage 2013 distribution group but new name nit showing up

We had to rename a distribution group in exchange 2013 but since we did that, users are still seeing the old name not the new one.
I ran the 2 commands on the exch server to update the GAL and restarted the exchange mailbox assistant service also on the server but the old name is still there. I made this change on Friday so it should be seen today.
Any idea on why this is and what I can do?

Where is the change not being seen, Outlook (cached mode) or Outlook (non-cached) or OWA or all?

Try this, search same dl in AD snap-in. Then right click and select rename. Update new name in all boxes and wait for AD replication.

Is does show up in owa but not in cached mode in outlook. If we take off cache mode, it appears.
Is this something that we just have to wait for?

Your OAB take time to update. Check for OAB corruption.

You can also force address book updates on the client when in cached mode.

Send/Receive >> Send/Receive Groups >> Download Address Book >> Uncheck "Download changes since last Send/Receive" >> OK

This action will force a full download of the updated OAB.  If it still does not show after that, then you can look into checking for OAB corruption.

Don't forget to do the following on the Exchange server(s) (in order) prior to downloading the address book...

  1. Update-OfflineAddressBook "Default Offline Address Book"
  2. Restart the "Mailbox Assistants" service

Typically, the address book is updated every 24 hours (around 5 am) and then the updates are downloaded to the Outlook client (in cached mode) only after Outlook has been closed and reopened.  However, with the steps outlined above, the 24 hour wait time can be manually bypassed.

Had to wait for replication to occur
