Can anyone please provide a pros/cons list based off of personal experience as to why one would or wouldn't enable Storage I/O control in vsphere 6.0?

vsphere 6.0 Storage I/O Control

Can anyone please provide a pros/cons list based off of personal experience?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Best Practice is to enabled Storage I/O if you have the feature available.

Disadvantage, it never used to be available, only available in Enterprise etc

It can be a PITA, when enabled to Disable on a LUN! and dismount... e.g. LUN removal!

1. Not enabled by default
2. Per Datastore enabled
3. a particular metric value needs to be reached before it's applied
4. default latency threshold of approx 30ms
5. averages latench across all hosts
6. disk shares assigned ti I/O slot

Basically use it, if you have it.... lots of LUNs, Hosts, VMs etc
