You may open some files in Notepad++ that show colors in the text, but that is syntax highlighting because it recognized that type of file and has rules about what words to try and highlight in what colors.  This would typically show in programming code files, not plain TXT files.

You can't do that in notepad++, it's a plain text editor, not a rich text editor.
if not color can i bold or italicize etc?
No, sorry.

Yes you can do the bold & italicize but you have to go to the Format > Font> chose the Font Style....
but not to individual words :P
In Wordpad:
hilight the text you want to change the color of and look for the A underlined with a black bar in the home tab.  That will allow you to change the color in Wordpad.  Just ask if you need a screenshot.
@Ryan,

Please don't repost the same suggestions that have been made earlier...

In Wordpad just select the word(s) and then in the ribbon use the A with the heavy underline under it to select a color for that text.

how word pad different from microsoft word document. Both seems almost same to me?
Wordpad is "free" and Word is not. Word is a full featured word processor and Wordpad can make simple documents but Word can do advanced things like mail merge, more in depth formatting, etcetera.

It is like comparing the quality of a ride in an ultralight vs a commercial jet.

Using other products, like QuarkXPress or Adobe PageMaker would be like comparing the quality of a ride in a commercial jet vs a Gulfstream.

Wordpad is for simple, Word is for advanced and QuarkXPress / PageMaker is for the complex and difficult (i.e. publishers).
