How to block a phone number (text or phone call) using TrueCaller?

We downloaded, installed the program successfully. Today two incoming text messages were caught by TrueCaller and we had choices, view, block, etc. We first used to Google to try to identify the senders and then let TrueCaller block them.
Then a 3rd text comes in from a phone number with a different area code than the first two. This one did not cause TrueCaller to open and catch the call. We have searched all programs on the phone and all sites inside of Google Play and we can not find TrueCaller.
As well as watching videos on how to use TrueCaller. If it fails to open itself when a call or text comes in we are not able to find the program.

The only feature we desire is to be able to open the program and insert an undesired number. These numbers may have originally been a phone call or a text. Some of our received text have 6 digit numbers and others have the complete phone number.
Any help?

You have to give permissions to TrueCaller to allow it to answer calls. It should have asked you for these permissions during setup.

Android Home > Settings > Apps & notifications > App permissions > Phone > Enable

You also need to tell your phone to use TrueCaller by default to answer the phone.

Android Home > Settings > Apps & notifications > Default apps > Phone app > Truecaller

If you are having trouble locating these settings then you can use the search bar within the settings app to find them. Sometimes Android settings move around depending on who makes the phone and what version of Android you're using.

ZTE N817 has Android O/S. It just picked up another call or text from the same area code as the other two it picked up. It failed to pick up the one from out of state.

It also asked me if i wanted it to be my default SMS application. I said no because I do not know what that permission gives the program. I'm looking for a way to open the program and add a number I wish to block. Is that a feature?

The application cannot actually block something unless you give it permission to do so. Being default means that is the program which you use for that feature instead of using another program. A program cannot go in and change how another program functions. You would be replacing the default dialer with TruCaller and your default SMS program with TruCaller.

I have not been able to find the actual program on the phone. It opens up on calls from within my area code but fails on those outside my area code.
I did not agree to SMS because I need phone calls coming in to be blocked too, when it ask me to block or view.
SMS definition appears to be text messages.

The TruCaller program does both Phone and SMS.

We do not understand how it works. The program is a seen app on the screen. We opened it andit showed all calls and text but no way to block each one individually as we might desire.

It opens itself when a message arrives from within our area code. Outside our area code is does not answer.

We need to choose what is spam and what is not. So we want to be able to take a look at the call it is calling spam. Then choosing view, or block. This only works if the call comes from within our area code. All others are ignored by Trucaller.

Maybe we can find an easier program to let us enter a number and block it. This ZTE phone does not have call blocking so we need a third party tool.

Whether or not a phone number is within your area code should not impact the functionality.

If you want to change the block settings:

* Open Trucaller
* From within Truecaller, click on the menu button at the top left
* Go to settings
* Click on Block

There will be several options about what to block and when to block them

To add a number to block:

* From that menu, click on "View my block list"
* At the bottom right there is a + button to add a new number to block
