Cisco mac address tables

I have added a couple of Cisco switches in my environment to replace a couple of failed older ones and moved connections. I was wondering if I should clear the mac address tables on my other switches?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Typically, there is no need to clear MAC addresses on switches, switches are created to be able to automatically deal with it. By default,MAC address is kept in CAM table for 5 minutes of inactivity. If interface goes down all MAC addresses from that interface are removed right away. There are other mechanisms to keep MAC address table up to date like STP's TCN (MAC address table behavior depends on STP protocol which is in use).
So, answer is NO, there is no need to clear MAC address table unless you notice that there is something wrong (which in that case, most likely, there is some bug on some device).
