Windows 10 pro momentarily sleeping and restarting because of ups battery trigger

Hi there, I have a customer using a Windows 10pro PC system as a server of sorts so run 24/7.

Its got a UPS hooked up to it using windows power management to interact with the UPS and shuts the system down in the event of sustained power loss.

He contacted me today saying the system went into sleep and restarted over the course of just under 1 minute returning him exactly to where he was which it has done in the past.

The event viewer shows a number of logs relating to power settings initiated sleep. The UPs battery is always at 100%

I have attached the relevant system events.

Anyone got any ideas?

The log (when I opened it in Excel) was empty. PDF it and repost it.

The system did not likely go to sleep because of the UPS at 100% (unless you have a log entry that says otherwise)

the system went into sleep and restarted over the course of just under 1 minute

It is the day or so after Patch Tuesday. Was it restarting from an update?

Double check the Sleep, Hibernate, and Hybrid Sleep settings in your Power Plan (Advanced Power Management settings).

Turn OFF Hibernation and Hybrid Sleep and set Suspend.

HI John, thanks for the response - PDF attached.

The systems should not have gone to sleep, I think it was like a trigger to sleep/hibernate (which i have no issue with) but sensed power was there so restarted immediately.

It is the day or so after Patch Tuesday. Was it restarting from an update?

No I dont think so. If it was a true restart the user ewould have to have logged back in - they did not. It was as iff the screen wenty black for a munite, the resumed. The user checked thje PC case LED - that did go off briefly.

Is the Time Clock of the UPS the same as the Computer Clock. If the times are different that might cause this.

The UPS is a fairly basic one and has no clock.
It may be incompatible with Windows 10 if that basic.

Disconnect the computer from the UPS.  Let it run and see if it goes to sleep momentarily. You need to determine if (a) a computer problem or (b) a UPS problem. My APC UPS has a clock, runs my Desktop and network and does not cause any issues.

It has worked fine and tested fine.

Its all fairly new UPS and Computer its only a few months old.

So I really doubt that would be incompatible.
If the UPS is fine, maybe try reinstalling or upgrading the Windows 10 Power Management software.

Also in 2018, BIOS, Chipset (and usually Video) need to be upgraded for the Meltdown and Spectre threats. Update all these drivers and restart the machine.

The problem with that is its very intermittent - only done it a few  times aware of.

So can you make anything specific from the log entries around this issue?

What control software are you using for the APS?
I looked at the log and the only thing that stood was the clock.

I use APC Power Chute for my UPS and that interfaces properly with the UPS. It only activates in a power outage.

Hi John, I have used the power chute software in a few installs and it often loses connection width the device so I didn't have much faith in it.

I chose the windows software as it interfaces well with the UPS and effectively makes the computer behave the same as a Laptop. Aside from this glitch, it works really well. When on battery (UPS) the system sleeps after 5 mins and restarts when it see's resumption of mains power.

I might try reinstalling the battery management drivers ect
Please keep us posted when you try this.
