open an external spreadsheet from a slide

I want to put an object. e.g. a rectangle in a powerpoint slide that, when I click on it, it will open an excel spreadsheet. What is happening is, when I click on the object (on presentation view) it just goes to the next slide.
How do I do it? Can anyone help?
(I am using ms/office 2016)

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

To do that, select the shape, go to Insert Tab --> Actions -->this will open Action Settings Window --> Select the Mouse Click Tab --> Select the radio button for Run macro and select the macro which opens an excel file and click OK to finish.
