Urmet Intercomm set faulty : no sound : where to get compatible set

The various apartments in our residential area links up to an Intercomm
system where outside visitors could press our apartment's unit # to
communicate with us when they reach the security guard house.

Attached is the photo.

A week back, this unit turns faulty & the contractor requires $300 + to
replace it:  is this something proprietary or I can get a compatible set
from eBay to replace?   I've tried adjusting volumes & resit but no joy.

If there's compatible set for this  urmet set, pls provide me the online
link to purchase

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Flip the unit over and look on the back.  There should be a sticker with the model number.  This will help considerably when searching for a replacement unit.

There's plenty of Urmet equipment on fleabay, but there are two issues.

  • It's all quite expensive
  • Much of it has no picture

You could try this one, which looks something like the one you have.  Everything else is well over $US 100.

I'd look at replacing the entire system with something less expensive and for which replacement parts are readily available.  imo, $300 for a handset is about $275 too much.  This frankly does not look like it's built well for the intended use; such equipment tends to be used hard and/or abused.

If you intend to keep this equipment, lay in a comfortable supply of spares for all the components while you can still obtain them.  Such equipment tends to disappear off the market after about 10 years and prices from the few remaining sellers then skyrocket.

Sorry to hear that.  Still, it would be only fair to tell the management to expect large maintenance bills in the future.

If you are using Urmet security cameras, you should also know that (up through about 5 years ago) they can be subverted.  These security holes are seldom fixed, so it would be well to investigate this further.
