I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi B,

If you are working in reversal order, universal rule to find Cost Price is Selling Price x 100 / 100 + Profit(%)
In Excel as you have H8 as 150%, above formula will be multiplied by 100 within Brackets as below
=G8*100/(100+H8*100)

Where G8 is Selling Price x 100 / 100 + H8 as Profit(%) x 100

Shums,  Thanks for the quick answer!  Appreciate your help although I believe this was one of the less challenging questions you have resolved for me ;-)    Appreciate the work and accuracy.

Your return value is the simple change (in percent):

( newValue - oldValue ) / oldValue = change

Open in new window

just solve this for oldValue:

( newValue - oldValue ) / oldValue = change     | * oldValue
newValue - oldValue = change * oldValue         | + oldValue
newValue = change * oldValue + oldValue
newValue = oldValue ( change + 1 )              | / ( change + 1 )
newValue / ( change + 1 ) = oldValue

Open in new window

thus

=G8/(H8+1)
