HP Laserjet Professional M1217nfw MFP printing out of order printing duplicates multiple times when I chose print one. Tried Install and Reboots. Display is Blank

HP Laserjet Professional M1217nfw MFP printing out of order, repeating page one 5 times and repeating print jobs when "I ONLY CLICKED PRINT ONE TIME??? Next I noticed that I was out of toner so I went and replaced that and printed one test page. My own test page NOT a Microsoft Test page. The one page worked. SO I tried to print the sequence of pages. 12. Tried printing all 12 then tried saving paper printing front and back. Nothing worked. Went to support at HP nothing on it. Downloaded Diagnostics and Latest driver firmware stuff.  Diagnostics did not seem to do anything. Could not get firmware or driver combo installed. Tried restarting and rebooting several times. I also tried all the different ways you can reboot. The LED display will not show anything at this point. Completely blank.!  I ether get the 1 green and 2 yellows or no lights after rebooting on the shelf next to the display.

Does anyone know what I can try to resolve this?

how is the printer connected to the pc?  wi-fi, network, printserver?
with printserver, rebooting can help

otherwise, i suggest uninstalling the printer completely, and do a fresh install

I am getting a blank display when I uninstall and clear print spooler as stated above.  I can unplug and plug up with the power button turned on and get the Green light top then Orange bottom two. Then nothing happens no display. Next I can unplug and plug back in with power button set to off position and it now comes up when the power button is pressed no lights no display. Odd that with a brand new toner cartridge and all things being default with no former issues but the toner change that I get nothing on the display. Can you have a defective toner cartridge? It has been sitting a year unopened in the sealed plastic carrier compartment and box.CE285A. Correct Toner cartridge. Now I am beginning to wonder. How I can if at all reset this printer and find a solution? It is as if it has gone off the rails. No electrical faults or lightning strikes in my area or power outages.  Did you say or does HP have to have a USB connection first to load the software on the printer after it has been cleared out so to speak or am I confused?
John

The toner ink could have settled and not be working properly after that time.

Did you vigorously shake the toner before using it

Sorry should have clarified. This is a home printer. No printer server like I assume you mean in an office situation. I do have a decent Tower PC with Win 7 Pro. (can't go to 10 as things will start to break.) Before things went awry this printer was simply an IP address 192.168.1.105 and I was wirelessly connected to it from a Dell and a Mac. Even though the tower PC the printer was originally installed on has a wireless card.  I tapped both the cartridges and an even amount of toner came out on both ends of them. Replaced them back into the printer and no changes.

Does the software get loaded onto the printer from the installation or does the software go just on my computer. I noticed even when you do a wireless install I am prompted to use a USB connection for the initial installation process. I assume it is to place some files or something on the printer?

Any other suggestions I am all ears. Very confusing. Went from strange issues of printing multiple pages and not doing front and back. Just last week it was doing all that just fine. Not sure what is going on. Saw a Information bulletin on HP stating the following: "Information regarding recent vulnerabilities HP is aware of the recent vulnerabilities commonly referred to as "Spectre" and "Meltdown". HP has published a security bulletin with patches for these issues and a list of impacted systems. We will continue to update the bulletin as more information becomes available and encourage customers to check the bulletin frequently."

How would I know if I had some kind of bug? Thanks again for all your support by the way. You are getting me farther than I was.

NOBUS I have tried doing that which you describe above. I still get the three lights and no display. I have tried pressing the buttons and even removing the cartridges. Nothing has changed. I have also read the guide and can see no reset instructions other than the ones that say to press the setup (the wrench button) while the unit is on. Of course is says to go to the display and reset it there. Not possible with no display. This seems so strange since right before the toner change and the issues with the misprints and the duplicate prints of page 1 five times then skipping to 6,7,8,9. Very odd. I am wondering if this could be a memory issue. Although I do not know why it might be this...?  Not to question your knowledge but are you sure that is the sequence for resetting factory defaults for that machine HP Laserjet Professional M1217nfw MFP?

I did everything the troubleshooting said to do. Nothing is happening. I still either get the 3 lights as stated above or no lights and no display. None of the reset reboot stuff is working. I am wondering if something inside the cartridge is somehow affecting the printer. I have tested reseating it over and over on a brand new cartridge even going back to the old one which is almost completely out of toner. This is very very confusing. All HP wants to do is charge me 100 to solve it and for that much I may just put it toward one of the New Brother printers with the amazing refill kit. I am totally confused as to why it just seems to have gone kaput. Right when I needed this printer. I may relist this and see if any HP techs will give it a go. I am not sure why this is happening but man I really needed this to work. If I do and you have nothing further may want to bypass to see if I can spark someone who knows a little more. No offense sometimes members won't always post when they see several EE members already involved. Thanks Trying one last thing with a USB to see if that will work.

Called HP and begged them for help. In the process I realized i have two gray power cables behind my computer desk. Two servers at my feet connected to two different printers. Konica and the HP. Here is what I did. I connected the HP to my surge Protector and my PC to my  power bar. I reversed them. Am I screwed? 300+ wireless printer gone....OMG. I hope not. Does anyone know if they can be recovered. I must have been dead tired and just hooked them up backwards. I even had labels. No excuse. Just wondered if anyone has heard if they can be recovered ?

I had posted a comment that never made it to the site somehow. It is unbelievable how many times I have closed or tried to post a message and it never went through. That is another story and problem. If I should inform someone who that would be please let me know.

To John & Nobus
If the the memory or whatever it is that shows the display information has been wiped do you know if the memory firmware....whatever it is can be reloaded. I ask because the PC did recognize when plugged up that there was a printer even though display was blank. Since I had not installed the full install of the driver firmware full package deal. I do not know if that kept me from getting the printer back.
What I do not know or understand is if or that the printer has to be loaded with something from the software or if the printers display content comes with stuff already loaded on it?
Would anyone know if there is a way to somehow reload that or to check for a resister or transister that is blown.

Case in point a few years back my refrigerator's "motherboard I will call it" went out. Repair man comes in pulls it says yep this one always blows the same (resister transistor something?) He already had a new board on his truck. (That's how common the problem was.) Shows me the tiny little burned piece on the board. Swaps out. Charges $400.00 I cannot remember resister...or what. Got out a magnifying glass looked up the items number. $2.38 for a new one. Ordered one and used my soldering iron and wallah. Now I have a backup spare ready to go if it ever goes out again.

My curiosity is if this is a common mistake of powering on with a Surge Protector as I did. Is something blown and could I possibly replace I wonder..?

Yes I have at this point. Does anyone think it might be worth a repost as the information seems to mean that I damaged the digital display internally not externally of course but maybe someone in the hardware side or printers can advise if it is Kaput or salvageable as I noted above int my next to last post about the refurbishing the fridge? Thoughts please. I was not expecting to have to purchase a new printer right now. Heck I have 3 brand new cartridges I got from HP. I am on a business budget hence the question. Any ideas left to do.

I think I hosed this printer. I am going to post another question and see if there is a way to install maybe the firmware if that is what goes into the digital display or maybe I can find out if it is salvageable? I cannot believe I plugged it in incorrectly. They need to make a big label or I will sticker hanging off the end that says DO NOT PLUG INTO SURGE PROTECTOR....or either fix the problems that damage the components in a printer. Thank you for your help. I wish there was a way to:
