FTT is the NumberOfFailuresToTolerate e.g. FTT=1, FTT=2

Erase Coding is also known as RAID 5/6 (creation of redundant information from parity data but across network devices!)

(newish feature added)

in vSAN 6.2 and later

Erase Coding  was introduced to reduce storage consumption when protecting against failures.

Both are implementations of fault tolerance for data and VMs.
