Hyper V Machine Unbearably slow
Hyper V Machine is so slow. Its not network speed, its opening and closing applications. I have a Server 2012 Hyper V Server hosting one Server 2012 Vmachine. It started to get slow since Friday. I have rebooted and it took a long time to boot. Everything is unbearably slow.

Yeah there is 16GB on the host. Its one vmachine. The only thing on that particular disk is the vmachine disk.
Open Task Manager on the host then go to Resource Monitor --> Disk tab --> Sort by Total Throughput.
What's sitting up high?
At 16GB of physical RAM I suspect the host is probably running processes to the swap file.
How much vRAM is assigned to the VM?

Click the Disk Activity tab. What file is hogging those resources?
*BINGO
The host is swapping. Reduce the amount of vRAM assigned to the VM by 1GB (requires a shutdown of the VM).

Ok, I will do as suggested, but how do you know its swapping? What indicates that in my screenshot?
C:\PageFile.SYS is the key.

Still slow,
Agree, with the swapping, you didn't mention the memory of the guest btw.
You will have to leave a few GB for the host OS & buffers etc.
So 16GB Host first try to use with 8GB guest, then if after a while (under load) there is sufficient space free on the Host you may increase the Guest a *little*.

From an elevated PowerShell please post the results in a CODE snippet to make them easy to work with:

Keep in mind this is something that started recently. It worked fine for about a year.

Please snip the disk activity screen right now.
Doesn't look like it's working that hard at all.
ASKER
It's working fine since yesterday evening. I don't know what the deal is.

if the disks are on external media, what is the load to that media?...
