How do I back up Outlook data files automatically?

How do I automatically back up Outlook files?   I am using Outlook 365 Business.   I want to back up the data files automatically on a NAS on my network.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

There is a native solution which works as a sort of backup - it includes the Office 365 eDiscovery tool. Here is a tutorial on how to use it: How to export Office 365 mailboxes to PST using eDiscovery
The two biggest problems is the unreliability of PST files and that this method is far from being automatic. I am afraid that there is no native automatic backup solution, so you might need to rely on third-party backup solutions, like CodeTwo Backup for Office 365.

You can the auto archive feature in outlook to automatically backup your outlook data. it will back up the data to pst files and place the pst file where you choose even on the NAS. Just be mindful that it's not recommended to access pst files from network shares because of the high probability of corruption, it's always recommended to have the pst local on your machine when accessing. if its just for backup then backing up to the NAS should be fine. See the below link to assist you with setting it up.

You could use a simple DOS Batch file to do this. At one of my Accounting client premises, I've replaced their Shut Down function with a script that automatically backs up their PST file to a NAS drive each time they shut down for the day.

Hello,

There are 3 solutions as far as I know to backup data from Outlook 365. Lets see one by one.
1. eDiscovery PST export tool: You can easily backup Outlook data file from Outlook 365 using O365 eDiscovery PST export tool (as suggested by expert)
2. Powershell commands: Using Office 365 PowerShell commands you can backup data from Office 365.
3. Office365Export Tool :  This is a third party solution. According to the user's, experts' and my opinion. This is the best, safe and reliable solution to backup data from Office 365 into PST and 3 more formats. But, it is totally depends on you, what you choose. Choice is all yours.

PS: You should try all the solution and verify yourself.

Thanks & Regards,
Clark Kent
