Exchange Retention Policy not working as expected
I have applied a retention policy for deleted folder in my Exchange 2010. I am in the POC stage of this and I have applied it to two mailboxes. One of them is behaving as expected (Office 365 app) and the other is tagging the items with an expiration date on items older than 7 days, but the items are not being removed.
This user has 95K worth of deleted items going back well over 7 days. When I applied this policy 8 days ago the items that were older than 7 days all were tagged with expiration date of 5/23/2018. Today we checked and she still has 95K + worth of items in here deleted folder.
Any ideas ?

Does she have an online archive activated on her mailbox? Retention policies will only move mail to an Online Archive. Offline archiving has to be done manually or using Scheduled Tasks and a script.

I did not enable online archiving? I only want to auto delete deleted items older than 7 days.

Do I need to enable online archiving even if I do not have a Retention Policy that archives e-mails. I am just looking to do mailbox cleanups.

I just checked and the items in the folder were delete as hoped and I did not enable Archiving.
It just took some time I guess.

Thanks Adam.
I ran the Start-MFA initially and prior to even checking today I ran it again to see if it would help. I went back into the user's mailbox a minute of so later to see that the deleted items reduced to 395. So I do not know if this happened because I reran Start-MFA or if it was already like that prior to running, but either way I am happy that it working the way I expected.
