Technical Writing: Correct terminology for what to filter on

Hello,

I'm documenting a data table where you can filter on various columns. e.g. you choose Name, State or ZipCode from a drop-down menu.

So, one of my instructions will read: Select your ________ from the drop-down menu.

But, for the life of me, I'm blanking on how to fill in the blank. Would it be "criteria"? "column"? "field?"

Thanks,
Steve

Using the drop-down menu, select the attribute to use for filtering.  Attributes available are any of the table's column heading fields.

Or something along those lines.
Hi Steve,
Drop-downs are usually known as "list of values" (LOV). So I would say that "value" is a good choice for you.

Btw, we've discussed this at least twice before:

Hey Joe,
Fair enough that we've discussed previously. But in this case, I was referring not to the drop-down menu terminology. Rather, I meant the term for what you're filtering on. (Would be the same question we were using radio buttons to filter.
Thanks.
