Basic Cisco switch networking 101
Hi, there's an Edgemark router connected to a Cisco small business switch.  I'm curious what's the benefit of connecting the to the G1 interface over the standard 1 - 24 switch ports.  Also, is there any down (network degrade?) side to hanging additional network devices off the typical 3 or 4 LAN ports on the router when it's a flat network?

AFAICT the router is 10/100Mbps... so any speed between router & other equipment  is limited to that
If the Switch has 1Gbps ports the speed between devices connected to the switch (not using the router) will get 1Gbps speed....

So the additional network devices hanging off the router's LAN interfaces will not get preferred or better internet speeds over the switch network devices hanging off of it?

What's the benefit of connecting the to the G1 interface over the standard 1 - 24 switch ports?

Your ISP may have that port preconfigured... the others might be preconfigured for other purposes (TV, VOIP....)
Just make the manuals easy..., avoid "choice-stress"....
Without access to configuration it is hard to tell.

WHat's the benefit of using the G1 interface over the remaining 24 ports when the switch does not have any VLAN configurations and it's a very basic network/router setup?

Probably not a lot.  as your router is only 10/100Mbps... it wont fully utilize the 1Gbps available on the switch.

So that's typically used for connecting a switch to another switch?
