4GB RAM is definitely going to be an issue - you'll really need 8-12Gb

What model of i5 Mac and what age is it? What version of OSX?

There is nothing wrong with the i5 processor on a 2014 Mac Mini BUT you should really have 8-16GB RAM and a SSD drive and not a standard HD.

You'll have to spend a fair bit to upgrade the RAM and HD if you don't have them but XCode will struggle with a standard HD and 4GB RAM
If you only have 4GB, your system is a bit old and you probably have a spinning disk unless you had a Macbook Air or upgraded to SSD at some point.  4GB was fine during Lion (OS X 10.7), but really did better with 6GB.

Starting with Mavericks, you really needed 8 GB to be ok.  If you're able to upgrade both RAM and SSD, then you might be ok, unless your Mac is much more than 6 years old.
