Go to the path where the hyper-v disks are stored and validate that the folder associated with that disk does not appear, if so, delete it manually and try again the expansion.<br />

I cancelled a disk expand on a Server 2016 VM VHDX (Clustered 2016 Hyper-V environment) and the window was stuck in &quot;Attempting to cancel&quot; so I killed it via task manager. Now when I try to do is again, I cannot expand the volume, it throws an error saying &quot;failed to expand disk&quot;. I also cannot take Checkpoints in hyper-v manager. <br />

I'm getting event ID 15282 and event id 27294. I also cannot run Veeam backups on this VM. I'm worried about doing anything (reboot, migrate etc) because I don't have any way to back it up. It's a production server as well.

Now when I try to do is again, I cannot expand the volume, it throws an error saying "failed to expand disk". I also cannot take Checkpoints in hyper-v manager.
