Bootcamp error - startup disk does not have enough space to be partitioned

Hi - I just formatted the hard disk and reinstalled MAC OS High Sierra for the purpose of setting up Bootcamp.

Now with a clean disk its telling me :

The Startup disk does not have enough space to be partitioned You must have at least 49 GB of free space available.

I am stuck!

Thanks

Bootcamp should be installed on a separate partition. you should shrink the MAC OS partiton and leave at least 49GB of unpartitioned space on the disk in order to successfully install bootcamp.

Hi - if i erase , it doesn't get rid of the partitions , Just formats them?
How do i fully remove a partition ?
Are those untitled partitions actually empty?  You should check before you erase them.

Also, why do you have so many partitions on your system.  You should probably merge your Mac partitions into a single partition.  It will be for confusing for you later when you're booting up and see the extra "disks" available during boot.

Boot Camp Assistant generally starts with the assumption that your disk has never been partitioned before.  It will want to let you adjust the partition from the new disk.

Hi - the partitions cannot be deleted . I am not onsite so I cannot post the error but I will .

Can someone please answer this for me. As an alternative to speeding up installation and so as not to touch the existing setup can I install Mac OS on an external ssd and then windows via Bootcamp on the same external dive ?

Read mixed views on whether it can or cannot be done .

Thanks
