Access stops responding when button clicked.

I have a command button on a switchboard that opens a form for input.  The button worked fine for months.  Now if you click the button you get a message that Access has stopped responding and it will close the database.  All the other buttons work fine.  I had to re-create the button and now it works fine.  Any idea what causes this?

Thanks I do all of that, compact on regular basis, but don't have rights to run batch files.  The company takes care of the backups so those are always available.  Sometimes I create my own so I don't have to wait for them to pull the file.

I did just recreate the button and no longer have the problem.  I will see what happens in the future.

Thanks for all the information.
