Hi Experts,
Wondering why are my programs not always listed under start/my programs?!
I was looking for a program installed there about a month ago, and was listed there under my programs as well..
Today when I was looking for it, it was nowhere to be found!!
And I had forgotten the name of it..
Luckily I had this program installed in another pc where it was still being listed..
Once I got the name, I was able to type in and it opened.
But why all this hide and seek?!

When you type the name in the start menu search, does it appear?
You might have looked at the automatically managed Last Recently Used list. As it is dynamic, it will change based on your most recent actions, of course.
The start menu as such does not change by itself, only after installs, uninstalls, or updates of applications.
Hi,
When you type the name in the start menu search, does it appear?
Yes, but as mentioned I dont always remember the name..
See attached how its back there now, but was not there before, and as mentioned w/o having the program installed and listed elsewhere I would be at lost-(:
Thanks,
Ben

I'm with you, they really ruined the start menu past XP. These days I just pin apps to the taskbar or search for them in the program directory.

This article describes how to get XP like functionality in Windows 7 https://www.howtogeek.com/howto/21992/show-the-classic-all-programs-menu-in-the-start-menu-in-windows-7/

Haven't tested it as I don't run 7 anymore.

And if you do make the leap to 10, Joe has a helpful video on improving it there. https://www.experts-exchange.com/videos/1218/Make-Windows-10-Look-Like-Earlier-Versions-of-Windows-with-Classic-Shell.html

I use Classic Shell (www.classicshell.net/downloads) to get a reasonable start menu, with my own, manual sort order ...

Thanks to Craig for mentioning my Classic Shell in Windows 10 video. It also works in Windows 8/8.1, as my other EE video shows. In fact, you may use Classic Shell to get the XP (or 2K) interface in Vista, W7, W8/8.1, and W10. Regards, Joe
