snapshot the machine<br />
remove the vmdk from the ide controllers settings<br />
go to the vm's settings, add the scsi controller<br />
add hard disk, select the vmdk you removed 2 steps ago.<br />
power on machine.. it may work depending upon the OS<br />
it it works merge the snapshot<br />
don't forget that 5.5 is soon to be EOL

Due to limitation of NVE Backup -IDE is not supported , so i need to change the controller type of my Linux VM[Red Hat Enterprise Linux 3 (32-bit)] from IDE0 to SATA/SCSI on vSphere 5.5<br />
VM Tool -N/A<br />
