RAID 6 - disk failure/swap

Hi guys,

One of the harddrive in  server(HP Proliant ML 350 Gen 9- server 2012 R2)has failed.

Server is configured with RAID6 setup with 5 hardrives. I got a replacement harddrive from HP with similar size.

I just want to know how to replace it and rebuild it??
Can I just switch off the server and replace the harddisk and switch on server back again? Or can i swap the harddisk as its running live without turning off as raid 6 - 2 harddisk can fail.
or do I need to do anything else in particular ?

As this is the first time I am swapping a harddisk, any help would be great.

Ok thanks a lot. Will do it when the server is on and will let you know guys how it went.
Just a general question. How to find whether it is hot swappable ??
if the drive comes in a removable tray then 99.9% of the time it is hot swappable

hi, one more question.
i just found in smart storage administrator.
it has port 1 and port 2. four drives are in port 1 and port 2 has one drive.
the failed drive is in port 1. so can i just take it out and put the new one back in ? sorry to bug you guys again with same type of question.

i have also attached a image to understand my question better. User generated image
How did we know.. We work with servers all of the time.. Yes just unplug the drive that is flashing red and insert the new drive. Not familiar with your controller but mine has 2 ports 8 drives per port.

Hi, thanks a lot. I swapped the disks, guess everything is ok now.
Yes should be Ok but rebuild time can take few hours.
Please check / refresh your smart storage admin page to see progress

but where do i verify it.
i got smart storage administrator software to check raid .
After rebuild exclamation mark should disappear
