VMware ha agent on this host could not reach the isolation address

Is it mandatory allow ICMP Ping request to the Isolation IP?

I've added few 5.1 ESXi hosts in a Cluster but getting the error- "VMware ha agent on this host could not reach the isolation address: <Gateway IP>"

ICMP Ping to the Gateway is blocked from ESXi host in our environment.

Yes, and always, but you can change your configuration to any IP Address, it does not have to be the Default Gateway, if you enable VMware HA, and want it to function correctly.

Any IP Address can be used, as long as you can verify it's always up!

Default Gateway's are often always up, and can be pinged.

Basically the HA Agent needs to verify something on your network!

Thanks for your reply.

As you mentioned "Basically the HA Agent needs to verify something on your network!", how can the ESXi host verify that the Gateway is in the network if ICMP ping is intentionally blocked.

Does that mean ICMP Ping must be allowed from ESXi host to the Gateway address for Cluster configuration?
