Dynamics 365 in outlook times out after Authentication

I have a use that is trying to work from his Outlook 2016 and has the add-in for Dynamics 365 in his toolbar. When he clicks the icon it will always get stuck on the Authenticating portion and then error out.

I found a reference online to follow but have yet to apply it because I need to know more about the issue. Is anyone else experiencing this issue?

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi cmdolcet,

Please let me know the version of Dynamics 365 you are using and whether it is Online / Onpremise?

Regards,
Chinmay.

I have not faced this issue and I am yet to migrate to 9.0.2.* so I do not think I can help here.

Couple of questions though, the error link is talking about incomplete configuration and it says that it is applicable for Online but I do not think that is the case. Can you tell me more details about the error your user is getting. Anything special you have seen in eventlog?

Well really all I know is that one of my users try to link an email inside of outlook and it gets stuck on the authentication and then throws this error.

Hi cmdolcet,

I checked your screenshot and I am bit confused, it does not talk about the error you have mentioned. Is it possible for you to check eventlog for any red flags on this user's laptop/desktop?

Chinmay.

Chinmay,

The OutlooktoDynamics screen shot would be the most relevant.  In saying that I goggled the issue and the link I sent with my original question called out for a security issue.

Hi cmdolcet,

I generally do not apply the solutions I get from searching online. The reason I am stating this is there are n number of reasons a particular message might appear from a given app(Not just Dynamics). To be really sure we need to check at least once in the event-log to confirm if this error is due to some authentication failure or something else. Another point, you are saying it is one of the user (I infer that others are not facing any issues) and the changes that article suggests are server side(which I do not think are anyways needed w.r.t. D365 Online) - which by design will affect all other users. So the problem most probably is on the client side not server side then why shall we apply Server Side changes?

Thoughts?

Regards,
Chinmay.

Chinmay,

I can get you the error log however the PC will not be in the country for another 2 weeks, so we will need to wait until then.

Thanks,

Wew... no worries. It seems the user is traveling. No worries. Also you don't need to post the entire log, just check the entries for errors and warnings around the time the user tries to log in.
