Solid JSON Tags for a Website with a Few Sections

Hi,

Need examples of best basic JSON-LD schema information for website homepage.  What looks good?  Just dipping my toe into the JSON water.  Getting penalized by Google a bit now.  Want just to cover the basics.  Will customize once I know more.  Just enough to pass the bar, as it were.

Need a few homepage examples - site I could see, please.  Sites with a few pages / sections to them.

For what its worth, in looking around and getting more confused, here's what I've seen.  These are obviously huge sites.  Looked at them for proper structure.  Hoping to find a short set of must haves from you friends and on a site that codes them well to get me out of the gate.

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Ultimately, the Structured Data you add to your homepage is heavily dependent on what your site is actually about. I would start by fully reading Google's Guidelines (aka strict policies), as they will help you to avoid steering into any dangerous waters:
https://developers.google.com/search/docs/guides/sd-policies

Now as for what you would put on your homepage, I would simply start by building out the json that Google uses to populate the "Knowledge Graph":
https://developers.google.com/search/docs/guides/enhance-site

You can see things like your logo, social links, contact info, etc. are used in the Knowledge Graph.

The actual pages located deep within your site will use different markup. If you have a page about recipes, you'd use recipe markup. If you have a page that is dedicated to an embedded video, you'd use video markup. On every page, you'd likely incorporate breadcrumb markup.

Getting penalized by Google a bit now.

Adding structured data to your site won't fix a penalty. To fix a penalty, you must stop doing whatever is leading to the penalty. I'd start by reviewing messages being reported to you inside of Search Console:
https://www.google.com/webmasters/

Need a few homepage examples - site I could see, please.  Sites with a few pages / sections to them.

It's almost hard to find web sites nowadays that don't have Structured Data on their homepage. You can plug any site/page into:
https://search.google.com/structured-data/testing-tool/u/0/
... to see the markup contained within, fairly quickly.

Here are some sites with markup on their homepage for example:

https://www.facebook.com
https://www.google.com
