Linux server in Hyper-V

Hello,

I am looking to set up a Linux virtual server in Hyper-V.  Where is the best\legitimate source of getting the Linux OS?

Thanks,
Roger

Thank you. How is it best to determine the type required? I need to set up a digital asset management system.

Thanks
if you're going with RHEL then it's paid one. need to purchase licence. better you can use CentOS or Ubuntu. CentOS is most reliable because it is same as RHEL and lots of features of RHEL you can enjoy.

What does the product recommend?

Linux is a product class these days, not a product.  There are scores of versions.  Some highly specialized (like Untangle), others more a general system.  MOST are based off either Debian or Red Hat.  Commonly used include Ubuntu, CentOS, Mint, and Fedora (that doesn't mean that the many others aren't just as valid, just that they are not used as much.  A new one I'm not familiar with is

I'd follow a link to whichever you want to use from DistroWatch - https://distrowatch.com/ - and download through that.

Hi,

AIAICT there is no illegitimate version of Linux.....
So you can get any distro that you like.... Now for support on hyperV you may need HyperV extensions. Those are not always readily available
They are probably built for CentOS, RHEL, Debian, Suse....
With the legacy drivers on HyperV you should get any Linux running.    Check what datbases you need, what tooling you need and select the "right" distro.
Some observations over the years:
RHEL is stable..., that might also mean some libraries that are needed are not available there until the versionl that still needs to be built.
(CentOS likewise)..
Debian is Stable but closer to current versions. and often has extra repositories to get to current versions as add ons not causing conflicts.
