Problem with ldifde command in AD-LDS schema import

I'm working through examples on setting up AD LDS synced to AD.
Syncing-lds-to-ad-ds/
[url="https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/26735824/AD-DS-to-AD-LDS-automatic-sync.html"AD-DS-to-AD-LDS-automatic-sync[/url]

Both get stuck when I run the step
C:\Windows\ADAM>ldifde -i -f MS-adamschemaw2k8.ldf -s localhost:389 -k -j . -c "cn=configuration,dc=x" #configurationNamingContext
C:\Windows\ADAM>ldifde -i -u -f "schema match with spaces.ldf" -s localhost:389 -b john.smith mydomain.company.com $ecretPWD -j . -c "cn=Configuration,dc=X" #configurationNamingContext ( I use my filename, and user values)

I get an error stating Invalid Parameter: Bad argument '-i'
Any ideas what is wrong with the commands ?
-i is import ldif file option

Which command? First, second or both?

Both commands fail with same error, as shown in the post....
I can run ldifde fine when using the export parameter, and some of the other commands to read information from the lds instance and AD, but the import parameter just will not work, and is not recognized even as a command parameter, although the command when it fails lists the -i option as one of the parameters it supports.
I am asssuming maybe this error message is not indicating the actual error, maybe it is a write problem importing the data, not a problem with the -i parameter as such. Maybe the domain admin account I'm using isn't permitted to import data from AD into the lds data ?
