Vmware ESXI host, 5.5.0, 1623387 isn't responding in the middle of night suddenly.

Vmware ESXI host, 5.5.0, 1623387( is not responding suddenly.

Login to ILO and found purple error message and perform a cold restart to one of the ESXI host that issue. See attached screenshot.
Servers (Guest OS) all move to another ESXI host when auto failover.

How to retrieve ESXI log and read the log for easy troubleshooting?

Tks.

i need to SSH to retrieve the log from /var/log?
Yes, or you can collect from vSphere Client.

It's not going to tell you anything, and you are wasting your time!
Hi Andrew,

Thanks for your kind response.

Is there a way to retrieve without SSH from vcentre as i've forgot the password.

Tks.

Hi Andrew,

My boss need the logs to forward to vmware support as I've no much experience for this kind of troubleshooting.

Can you provide me some ways to find out what exactly is the root cause of this kind of issue.

Tks.

Lcuky
If you are sending them to VMware, they will also advise, the same as I've advised above.

You've forgotten the password to vCenter Server ?
I login to vsphere client to Home>Administration > System logs but with error

You do not have privileges to view this page.

What should I do?

Tks.
I've vcentre password but i don't have the esxi root password to login via ssh.
File > Export >  grey out except export events...

How to enable it?

Hi Andrew,

Can provide me where is the different version with newer update from veware link and some guides for me study how to perform firmware update for the esxi host?

Tks.
Okay

1. You do not have the correct permissions for vCenter Server.

2. You do not know the root password for ESXi.

3. You CANNOT update the host! (easily)

via the console or SSH (you will need the root password)

ESXi needs internet access, and all VMs powered off.

type the following

esxcli network firewall ruleset set -e true -r httpClient
esxcli software profile update -p ESXi-5.5.0-20180304001-standard -d https://hostupdate.vmware.com/software/VUM/PRODUCTION/main/vmw-depot-index.xml
esxcli network firewall ruleset set -e false -r httpClient

Hi Andrew,

Can you share with me the link where to find the vmware built version of  ESXI host, 5.5.0, 1623387 is outdated and newer firmware version have 34 updates can be downloaded?

I need to prove it to my boss so that i can upgrade it.

Can you provide me some step by step help instead of the link on how to update the firmware with some screenshot for my easy understanding to complete this tasks as I've never update it before?

Especially, when you've mentioned that it's require to update all few hundred ESXI hosts as well as the vcentre to 5.5.

Can I know is there any implication to the network where there are 20,000 users with few thousand of guest OS running on SAP APP, Sharepoint, exchange2010 Mailbox, Office365 Cloud on hybrid mod,  IIS Web, Oracle DB, MS SQL DB, MS Cluster, MS Load Balancer, etc. in the enterprise network?

Tks.

Lucky
