MSN not reponding

I am getting frequent "MSN is not responding" messages while running Internet explorer 11. I suspect MSN and  would like to remove it. It seems to have been installed when I installed Internet explorer, to my knowledge,  I certainly haven't specifically installed it. Can I uninstall MSN from my PC and still run Internet explorer ?
I am running Windows 7 Professional 64 bit.
I have also observed the following:
When Internet Explorer is first launched, and click on the Tools button all the options are available:
Print
File
Zoom
Safety
Add Site to Start Menu
View downloads
Manage Addons
F12 developer tools
Go to Pinned sites
Compatibility view settings
Report Website Problems
Internet Options
About Internet Explorer

After a couple of minutes, only the following options are available:
File
Safety
Compatibility View Settings
Report Website Problems

The Zoom option is missing and the remainder of options are all greyed-out.

I would run a malware scan first iiwy - Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for example.
MSN is IE's default home page and folks don't realize that a large percentage of the websites get ads from a 3rd party company and that those ads can often cause big problems (I can wait several minutes for Weather.com to appear in IE, for example and it is the ads that cause the delay).
Many sites also refresh their pages, and ads on a regular basis (once every 30 seconds?) so, if you are having issues, the problems just get worse and worse....
As much as I am not a fan of Google's commercial bent on their search results these days, at least there are no ads so it tends to be quite fast and stable. Try setting your home page to https://www.google.com/webhp?complete=0&hl=en&gws_rd=ssl and see if that doesn't help a bunch.

ASKER

Thanks for your comments so far.
I had already scanned the PC using Malwarebytes(Premium) and no issues were reported.
I have had Malwarebyes installed for a couple of years on the PC and there are a few adware items that have been quarantined over a period of time. I have disabled all add-ins in Internet Explorer.
I also have installed and running, Sophos Endpoint security and control. I will do a manual Scan and report back if anything is found.
I also have Google chrome which I use occasionally to test Web applications.
So the  question remains, how do I remove MSN ?

I didn't have the MSN app. I did as you suggested and changed the home page.

Thanks for your help.
