Microsoft Word 2016 - Footers, inserting chapter numbers on different pages

My OS is win 10 Prof 64 bit and I have Office 365 and use Word 2016.   I am working on a large document of about 300 pages and need to insert Chapter numbers.  I have already inserted a footer for page numbers from the beginning of the document.  But the Chapter changes from page 22 to 30, how do I do this in the footer, so that the whole document will have the chapters inserted correctly.
thank u for your advise and regards

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Try increasing the margin (top and bottom) so there is more room for the header and footer. This works for me.

You need to insert section breaks and break the link to the previous section as detailed here: https://support.office.com/en-us/article/delete-or-change-a-header-or-footer-on-a-single-page-a9b6c963-a3e1-4de1-9142-ca1be1dba7ff
