Has anyone got any recommendations for an FTP client which supports TLS/SSL (not SFTP,) can be automated and can notify via email the log from a download?

I use WS_FTP (Ipswitch) for this. Top notch, reasonable price, works great and I have had it for a couple of decades now.

No FTP client supports TLS/SSL outside SFTP.

FileZilla works well + supports both FTP + SFTP.

BTW, you should never run an FTP server, as FTP passes all user/pass logins via clear text.

I had a client some years ago which kept getting hacked.

I traced this down to someone in a neighboring office to his business who had hacked their WiFi (all WiFi is hackable after around 80,000 packets of data flow)... so the only way to avoid being hacked is never pass a clear text login.

Anyway... I could change an FTP password + login once... a few minutes later, every client site on the net got hammered with login attempts using... you guessed it... the newly changed password...

Amusing... until you get hacked...

Only use SFTP.

FTPS is not really widespread.. for clients see FTP clients protocols support.

cURL, FileZilla and WinSCP are the common ones under Windows.

But it remains a top of class application
