Update the remote computer with Windows Updates.
Leigh - in case I was not clear above, I was suggesting updating both computers to the same level.

Hi John & Leigh,
Both PCs have up to date Windows Updates. (John - not sure what you mean by "updating both computers to the same level."?)
Rebooted both PCs.
Using Remote Desktop in the opposite direction works.

Thanks Cliff and John, for your help.
My remote PC was offered a major Windows update, but it would not install and got rolled back.
The remote PC is due to be retired very soon, so I have given up on Remote Desktop.
Teamviewer does the job for me.

Thanks for the update.
On both computers, update BIOS and Chipset and then run Windows Updates again. Restart both and try again.
Also try connecting FROM the Surface 4 to the other computer. Does that work?
