VPN speed, question#2

Speed test shows 80 down, 6 up. When I VPN it is 19 down, 5 up. When another computer that is on the same switch as me tests, it shows 13 down 2.6 up. Why would that unit be so much slower when are both on same switch?

Path is cable modem>router>switch> my computer and other users computer. My speed is twice as fast on upload. So, she is crying about her VPN speed, but I have no idea why mine is quicker.

What to look at? We are both Ethernet connected to the switch. Both are WinPro7 machines, mine is a desktop, her's is a laptop.

So you (A) and the other person (B) are both connected to the SAME switch with a VPN connection to another point. Is this correct?

Are the two endpoints the same? They may not be, accounting for the difference.

Weird, I had replied to this, but the reply is gone. Both person A and B are connect to same switch and we are both VPN'ing to our home office server. Her machine is an HP Elitebook 8540W with Win7Pro. Mine is a desktop running Win7Pro. It tried her laptop on wifi and then also on Ethernet and get same result, the upload speed on VPN is 2.5 while my desktop gets 6 to 7 upload every time I check. Speeds checked are while connected to VPN....same switch, vpning to same server, only difference is her's is laptop, mine is desktop.

There may be something going on in her laptop or some issue / damage to the operating system

Take a third, well-working machine, put it on the same switch port, set up VPN and test. It will likely come out the same as yours.

Try resetting TCP/IP on the laptop, just to see.

Open cmd.exe with Run as Administrator
Then: netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt
Then: ipconfig /flushdns

Then restart the laptop.

I'll try that later, I just read it, it's Monday am, so will need to wait till end of day. However, I ran speed test on my desktop and was surprise that I am slow today, it is 9 down, 2.5 up. I had her run speed test and her laptop today gets 16 down, 2.5 up. I find it a little odd that we both get 2.5 up, exactly 2.5.... I am used to seeing the numbers vary a little. So actually curious about two things, why my test was a much slower download of 9 and why we both get exactly 2.5 up speed.

It could be just situation normal and you are seeing the effects of data volume. There is possibly nothing wrong.

I decided to run the speedtest again and got 18 down, 2.6 up and I noticed about halfway through the up speed test, the number stayed constant at 2.6. I also noticed that on her's as well. Normally the number fluctuates a few points all the way through the test, but both her's and mine, about halfway through the upload speed test, it just stayed constant at 2.5 to 2.6.

Would that indicate throttling by a device that somehow has a role in the VPN speed?

The last question depends on your setup and I cannot say about that, but it does look like volume variations.

Also, you can anyways do the TCP/IP Reset when you can get to it.

Now I think it is something to do with the Speakeasy.net site. I decided to try a different site, so used Xfinity speed test and we both had similar results, both in the 18's download and in the 6's for upload.

Would that be governed by the test site, or is our router or cable modem somehow affecting the speed?

Internet speed when I use free vpn is low. For getting high internet speed I prefer to use nord vpn or proxy tool. Especially I like to use proxy for watching online movies and tv shows without glitches.
