DHCP server has stopped giving out IP addresses

DHCP server has stopped giving out IP addresses

Server: Microsoft Server 2008 R2

Issue: The DHCP server has been working up until Friday June 29th. Then it just has stopped handing out IP addresses to our desktops. I'm not sure what has caused this. I have shutdown the server and restarted it but that didn't resolve the issue.

I have tried downloading the Microsoft Rogue DHCP detection tool but when I launch the program it just immediately closes and doesn't do anything. Even if I right click on it and run it as admin.

Did you run out of addresses?
Did you check event logs?
Things to check:
a) Open DHCP console and run a consistency check on the Ipv4 scopes (Reconcile) to ensure DB is still in a good state.
b) Check the Event logs and the DHCP logs in C:\Windows\system32\dhcp.
c) Check the network switches and that dhcp relay is enabled and configured with ip helper address of the dhcp server.

@Lee, I do not believe we would run out of addresses as we have a pretty big pool of them. But I will admit I do not know how to check to see if we have or not.
The event logs didn't show anything that stood out to me. But again I'm very new to this so I'm not entirely sure what I should be looking for.

@Peter
A) I ran the check and it says, "The database is consistent."
b) The DHCP logs say that on June 29th 2018 at Midnight and 18 seconds a bunch of computers requested DNS but they are all failing.
C) I'm not entirely sure how to do this so I'll need some time to do so some research on that.
Open your event logs - system and application - filter on Warning, Critical, Error and review.  Someone should be doing this regularly to ensure the server is operating properly.  Or third party software should be used that calls attention to these issues.

If you were running out of addresses, it should note a warning in the event logs.

You can also review the DHCP Server management utility for info on how many addresses you are using - expand the server name, IPv4, and right click on Scope [...] and then click on Display Statistics
Hi Lee thank you for your answer!

So in the event logs I'm seeing:
Warning: RPC: Possible Memory Leak application mmc.exe dhcpmgmt.msc
Errors: CAPI2: failed extract of third party root list from auto update cab. Error: A required certificate is not within its validity period.

It says we have 111 in use so we are using 10% and 89% is free. with 912 left

Cool! Learning some new stuff! I really appreciate it!
Still requesting assistance in this issue if anyone is able to assist.
You may want to check the DHCP lease time on the IPs. I had this occur where machines were leased IPs for 14 days and it was causing an issue where we ran out of IPs.

If this is possibly the case, changing the lease time in your DHCP server down to 3 days, or even less if people grabbing them dont need daily connecitons - such as remote sales employees who visit oce a week etc.

Ensure you have enabled stale record recycling as well.
@Daddychop:
Any updates?
Author wants to delete the ticket due to no solutions offered, but did not answer the asked questions to allow us to assist.
- On 7/5 author requested additional assistance.
- On 7/6 I asked questions that would help us to help the author.
- On 7/6 I asked for updates from the Author.

No response to those questions does not allow us to continue helping. I'm assuming the issue has been resolved since it is over 6 months old with no activity from the author.
