How to set up a test environment

Hi Experts,

what it the best way to build a test domain that is separate from out domain.

Is there a free cloud solution where i can just use for testing?
Essentially I just want to set up a domain, Domain controllers, DNS, DHCP from scratch and test putting the whole thing together for learning

Thank

Hi,

What environment do you have at your disposal? Do you have any Hyper-V host servers? Old desktops / laptops?

Thanks,

David

ASKER

We have v-sphere here I can utilize that, I also have access to Azure cloud just not sure how the cost works.

thank you
Most Cloud providers have a trial. For example, Azure gives you $200 free trial

This is perfect for a lab
You could use the V-SPHERE. Create a isolated VLAN on the connected switch and trunk it to the V-SPHERE. Create an internal virtual switch with the mapped VLAN. Create the virtual machines and map their virtual adapters to the vswitch.
Running Windows 10 Pro/Enterprise? Install the Hyper-V Role and run the VMs in a Private vSwitch to run all necessary tests. A VM with either 2008 R2 RRAS or a freebie firewall with two vNICs could also be used as a router/NAT between the production network for Internet access all the while keeping things separate.
thanks everyone for the input. I will have to try and see which works best.
