Primary DC is taking a long time to boot

My main domain controller is taking hours to boot. Im pretty sure it will boot up eventually because it has done this once before. We all work on another server via Remote Desktop Services. While the main DC is down we cannot login to the remote desktop server because there are no logon servers available. Is there a way I can temporarily point the Remote Desktop Server to see the secondary DC for authentication?

I know this is a long shot, but I figured id ask.

I thought so..
On the Remote Desktop Server I simply specified the secondary DC as the dns1 and the users were able to logon.

...that is...unless you are still running NT4.  Which, if that's the case, my only advice is upgrade.
