Cannot connect to any shared folders over client to site VPN

VPN Issue:
I am experiencing an issue with our VPN (client to site) where, we can connect to the network, we can ping server IP address, we can ping server DNS name, we can connect to server via RDP but we cannot map to any shared folders.  There is a mix of Windows 2012 and 2008 servers and a mix of Windows 7 and 10 clients. We are using a Barracuda F380 Firewall. Any help would be appreciated.

Hi Scott,

Have you tried browsing to the network share over VPN rather than mapping it?

Does this work?

Thanks,

David

Yes I did try, that does not work either.  I forgot to mention that when these clients are on our LAN they have no issues getting to any shared resources and the login scripts run without issue.
Hi,

Is there a client firewall that could be blocking SMB over the VPN network. As it isn't an issue with DNS, i would suggest looking at both client and hardware firewall settings. Are any ports being blocked within the VPN access list?

Thanks,

David
Checked that as well David. Port not blocked on server and I even went as far as to shut down the firewall on the client and a server to see if that was the issue. Same result, I can ping the server and RDP to the server, just can't map drives.
Very strange.

Do the client machines have the domain DNS-suffix specified?

When connected to the VPN, have you tried doing \\fileserver.domain.com\fileshare
If I run Windows Network Diagnostics from the client while connected via VPN I get this error:

"The remote device or resource won't accept the connection."
Try using the IP instead of the DNS name: \\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx\fileshare
Yes, tried that as well. Same result.
Also, the rest of the diagnostics message says that the device or resource is not setup to accept connections on port "The File and Printer sharing (SMB)". I checked and "File and Printer sharing" is turned on. I also turned on "Network Discovery". Same results...very frustrating.
Ok, try a route print command to see if this is correct when on VPN.

What VPN client are you using?
I'm using the latest Barracuda VPN Client 5.0.1
I discovered there is one server I can see shared resources on. It happens to be a NON R2 Windows 2008 server.
What is the server OS you can see?
I found the issue, it was the webfilter. I had to add the VPN IP Address Pool to the exemptions list on the webfilter. Simple I know but took way to long for my brain to get there....not enough coffee I guess. Thanks for your input.
