ISTG fro Inter-Site and Intra-Site

I am following the below links to enable ISTG for inter-Site and intrasite and have doubt about this.
Hope someone will help me.

https://blogs.technet.microsoft.com/markmoro/2011/08/05/you-are-not-smarter-than-the-kcc/

I checked our sites options and noticed the option is "none".
Step 10 in the above link 1 listing the numbers to disable both intersite and intrasite.
The same number is being used on the link 2,
What is the number I have to enter to enable both Intrasite-Intersite?
My second question is, do I have to delete the existing manual NTDS object before enabling ISTG?

you need to run below command from elevated cmd on PDC server for each site

repadmin /siteoptions /site:SiteName -IS_AUTO_TOPOLOGY_DISABLED

and

repadmin /siteoptions /site:sitename -IS_INTER_SITE_AUTO_TOPOLOGY_DISABLED

you don't need to delete any manual connection objects, once kcc functionality is restored, it will populate new connection objects and later on you can delete manual connection objects

It is where my confusion.
Are those two are alternative to ADSI Edit, hence it will change the value at option?

MaheshArchitectCommented:
yes, those are from command line, from "repadmin" cmdlet and when you run those commands, AD actually clear out options which means intrasite and intersite replication is enabled (default)

Administration of Active Directory does not have to be hard.  Too often what should be a simple task is made more difficult than it needs to be.The solution?  Hyena from SystemTools Software.  With ease-of-use as well as powerful importing and bulk updating capabilities.

You mentioned PDC at each site.
We have only a single domain  forest with multiple sites. In this case ,  guess we run that commands at  DC which holds FSMO, is it correct?

You mentioned PDC at each site.

I mentioned that commands should be run from PDC master server for each site ...

It means logon to server holding PDC master role and run command from that server for all AD sites

REPadminI have the command in my lab and got the attached. What is wrong?
0
MaheshArchitectCommented:
nothing wrong

Its correct.

when you run commands with minus sign, intersite and intrasite topology gets enabled and that is default behaviour as explained earlier
so but obvious site options would show None only

If you run command with + sign, replication topology will get disabled and gets highlighted in site options

check site options for each site

repadmin /siteoptions /site:HQ

I have to run repadmin /siteoption:RE1 -IS_AUTO_TOPOLOGY_DISABLED at the PDCE for my next site RE1 and so on. Am I correct?

MaheshArchitectCommented:
Yes
However you missed site switch

Check earlier comments for complete command

I ran the below
repadmin /siteoptions /site:HQ
This shows
" the current site options":(none)
This is a new site and we never ran either
repadmin /siteoptions /site:SiteName -IS_AUTO_TOPOLOGY_DISABLED

or

repadmin /siteoptions /site:sitename -IS_INTER_SITE_AUTO_TOPOLOGY_DISABLED

Is KCC enabled?

MaheshArchitectCommented:
Hmmm.....

By default ISTG / KCC is enabled and hence it shows none

When you run above commands with +sign, it gets disabled

when you run commands again with -sign, it gets enabled
