Need help migrating folder redirection folders and files for each user profile to the new server after running Forensit to migrate user profiles.

Is there a way to migrate all the folders and files that are used for folder redirection from the old server to the new server?

I have used the ForensiT to migrate all the profiles but for some reason it's pointing to the old server folder redirection and no files and folders got migrated from the old server after running the ForensiT.

Thanks.

I've never used ForensiT but what I've done in the past for this is to do a Robocopy of all the files/permissions/etc. Then at night do a final "sync" using robocopy. (make sure to always take backups before starting anything just in case). Then change the group poilcy to point to the new server's share that you copied everything to. Disable the share on the old server. That's all there really is to it. DFS makes this much easier but it doesn't sound like that's setup at this point so this is the way I would go.

I have tried using xcopy and robocopy and for some reason can't copy the files and directories as it shows permission denied. I do run it as administrator but might be something else to do with the permissions that are set on the AD?

Thanks for the info!
Does your user have access to the files? Can you browse them without any issues? If not then you need to get yourself permissions then do the robocopy.
The user has no issues accessing the files. I'm trying to robocopy all folder redirected folders for all users from the current server to the new server which doesn't give me permission to do so, will i have to add a permission to the old server redirect folders for the new server admin account to be able to successfully copy all the files?
use robocopy with the backup option /B
I tried running it for the folders and it shows " You do not have the Backup and Restore Files user rights.", do you know how i grant backup and restore rights?

Thanks.
Are you running command prompt as administrator? If not that will resolve it. Otherwise your account should be at the least a local admin on both computers or a domain admin would be better.
Perfect.

Thanks.
Hi Sean,

Do you know how i can update all user profile redirect info on the new server automatically, i have over 50 users that i migrated user profiles and copied the redirect folders and files but for some reason when logging on to the new server it's showing the old server redirect locations with an error message. Is there a way to have this automated to change all redirect folders to the new folder locations without actually signing in to each user account?

Thanks.
it will show the old location until the user logs in and out 2-3 times.
For this reason I always use DFS.  Even with 1 target . Install DFS on both of your file servers, making them both name servers for your name spaces and folder targets. after the users log in and out and are now using the namespace share then you can remove the original target.. leaving the new target.
You changed the group policy to the new location correct? You can do a gpupdate /force on the PCs to test but usually a log off/on would reapply the group policies.
Yes, i changed the redirect folder group policy to the new location and did a gpupdate /force and logged off/on and still keeps showing the old location for Desktop, Documents, Pictures folders that i do a redirection on.

Currently when i try to login to one of the users on the new server it keeps showing me a folder corruption message for all the redirected folders, Desktop, Documents, Pictures with the location it's trying to open which is the old server information. I'm currently logged in to the new server and should the new server group policy for folder redirection automatically re-generate the correct locations?

Thanks.
