Win10 default applications and Internet Explorer problem
Hi,
I am using this method https://4sysops.com/archives/default-file-associations-in-windows-10/ to set the default file association for internet Explorer using the GPO method as the article suggests. I have set the file association on the test machine and exported them using the DISM, i have applied the computer GPO to the OU of a test group which the policy is applying but when i check the default application that open when i click a url still opens in Edge.
When i check the RSOP.MSC it show the policy but its showing as disabled yet the the GPO setting is set to enable in GP.
What am i missing?
Many thanks

Did you do a gpupdate on the client?
Have you got a loopback GPO in place to merge user and computer policies on the machines as the user configuration may be overwriting it.

Hi,
I did a GPUPDATE McKnife.
Andy M, with regards to loopback GPO are you referring to this one 'Configure user Group Policy loopback processing mode' no i had not had this set, would this need to be set as 'Merge'?
Cheers

You need to check why the policy does not apply. "it show the policy but its showing as disabled" - sounds odd. If the policy has applied, it would reflect the values that the winning policy has set.
"would this need to be set as 'Merge'?" - no, Andy wanted to make sure that Loopback processing does not interfere - it should NOT be set.

just done this and it looks like to me that the policy is not getting applied.
