remote laptop (not domain joined) cannot setup an outlook 2016 mail account
I have just purchased a new laptop and set about configuring my email.
It is not joined to a domain, as it will be used externally most of the time.
When I run outlook 2016 (connecting to an exchange 2016 server) it connects to the network then asks what kind of account it is, I choose exchange, but then we get asked for a password.
I already have my current laptop working OK, and just cannot find out where the problem is.
I have run the Microsoft connectivity test and get the following problem reported :-
Attempting the Autodiscover and Exchange ActiveSync test (if requested).
Autodiscover was successfully tested for Exchange ActiveSync.
Additional Details
Test Steps
Attempting each method of contacting the Autodiscover service.
The Autodiscover service was tested successfully.

Test Steps
Attempting to test potential Autodiscover URL https://domain.co.uk:443/Autodiscover/Autodiscover.xml
Testing of this potential Autodiscover URL failed.
Additional Details
Steps
Attempting to resolve the host name domain.co.uk in DNS.
The host name couldn't be resolved.
Tell me more about this issue and how to resolve it
Additional Details
Host domain.co.uk couldn't be resolved in DNS InfoNoRecords.
Elapsed Time: 62 ms.
I have checked all of the urls on our exchange server and as fr as I can see, they are all set correctly, even for autodiscover
Can anyone assist in helping me resolve this problem.
Many thanks

If you're old laptop is working, go into the server settings in Outlook and see what's in there, then try to manually setup the new one with those same settings.

Ive tried that, but nothing works. I have even tried adding a test outlook profile to the laptop that works, and that too fails.
OWA works just fine.
Many thanks

i have checked the nslookup autodiscover.domain.co.uk and it resolved perfectly.
i think i might have been missing the obvious though, as i seem to have it working.
when the request for the password popped up during the account creation, the user name was set to my email address. i was so busy entering the password, i never thought to change the user name to the domain name ie domain\username
when i did this, it worked.
not sure why i needed to do this, any ideas, as i don’t recall having to do this before??

then its probably the issue with the auth method.
That is what is mentioned, yes in the on-premise setup you need to use this method for auth.
domain\userid.

do you mean “off premises” as that is what this laptop is? Thanks
No I mean On-premise that mean in-house exchange setup.

so my laptop is not domain joined and is being configured outside the lan. should i still have to provide local credentials for that too?
just trying to understand what has been happening.

It doesn't matter if your PC is domain joined or joined in a different domain, when it comes to logging in to a mailbox hosted is On-premise Exchange server, this is how you login into that. using Domain\userid.

that’s great many thanks to all.
