Access Windows server data files via web
Looking for Windows Server cloud solution. Meaning, want to be able to access file stored on a Windows server remotely (basically from mobile devices). This would primarily be if we need to access a file to email a client when out of the office, etc. Not sure what the best solution would be. We absolutely don't want to sync data to a cloud service. We want all of our data in-house. I see two possible scenarios: 1. if there is a product/solution that we can install directly onto the Windows server that will allow this or 2) a Linux based solution that will provide the cloud based interface for the mobile device to access the data that resides on the Windows server.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

As I said I don't want to use a cloud storage service. Just self hosted solutions.

then you have Direct Access.. The suggestion to use IIS Website that points to the shares is what I don't like (shudder)

Work folders only accesses user folders. Not generic access to the file structure.
Your focus is not focusing on achieving a result.
Look at shared folders.
You effectively are building your own cloud. Access to the resources has to consider the builtin options that fail irate such access versus as David mentioned trying to bypass all security consideration potentially exposing sensitive data.

You want yo provide your users access to their own files or shared files in your environment.
Iis hosts both exchange OWA as well as sharepoint
Look at whether you can tie sharepoint through which the shared folder of interest to you can be exposed as a "cloud" similar to one drive functionality on your own server.
The user logs into portal.yourdomain.com and has access to shared folders to which files/data is published under a secure.
Sharepoint could have public and restricted.

You can create you own "Dropbox" or "OneDrive" using ownCloud.
Alternatively you can set an RDP-HTML5 proxy in your environment so the users can access their workstations (either physical, VDI or RDS) using a web browser. There are multiple solutions (paid and opensource). We built our own solution over the opensource project Guacamole.
