Why both tape drives have serial number conflict?
This is using veritas netbackup 7.7.3 with IBM TS3580 tape library. Master, media server are all installed with SuSE Linux 11. There are 2 Windows Servers deployed to backing up VMware VMs. 6 LTO4 drives were deployed in the robot library. Recently, found that the drive 7 was show "no light". We get the hardware vendor to help. They power down the robot library, replace the drive with a working drive (they eval this drive on their office, and clarify is working fine). After that, they power on the robot library, wait for the initialization. However, to our shock, this drive has a "same" serial number as the existing drive shown front panel of the robot.
We do the full rescan, robot inventory, still we can't get this drive works. How to troubleshoot? How to get this problem resolved?
Thanks in advance.

Read the manual. Find out how to swap out tape drives without preserving serial numbers. If there is no command to do that directly, maybe there's a "re-initialize" command.
HP has a free tool called Library and Tape Tools. Perhaps IBM has something similar.

Thanks for expert Thomas in suggesting to check from the library. Found this method is helpful through I can't try on it. Really appreciate it, thanks.

Thanks for the suggestions. So we start with library. btw, what and how should we start on it?
