"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Define 'read them', with enough supporting information so that experts here (who are not connected to your data source and can't run queries ) can answer your question.

Define 'read them'

I want to see the actual value..what is stored in the text field. But with this, I still see a value like this.....

 Declare @pointer varbinary(30)

Select @pointer =TEXTPTR (ReportObject)from dbo.Report
Where id=1656

ReadText report.ReportObject @pointer 1 50

Appears that the value is encrypted, which means there is a function somewhere that decrypts the value, and in your query instead of SELECT column_name it'll have to be SELECT decrypt_function(column_name) to display the actual value.  This assumes that you have privs to run that function.  Since experts here won't know anything about how your company is pulling this off, you'll have to ask around your company to get this answer.
