We have a mac in the shop that when you tunr it on you get the mac chime, then the apple logo, and then a progress bar. The progress bar move about halfway and then the screen goes white. We have tried online recovery, reset NVRAM and SMC, safe mode, and CTRL+R. None of these have gotten us anywhere. Just wanted to reach out and see if anyone had any other ideas. Client is a photographer and has tons of pictures on this mac. Was trying to keep from having to offload the pictures and reinstall.

1.  Let's start with the basic checks first.  Remove all external devices (scanner, printers, USB devices, etc).

2.  Are you able to boot into safe mode?  Press the power button > hold the Shift key > release the Shift key when you see Apple logo.  If you can then maybe the problem is with a newly installed application causing the problem.  Try uninstalling it.

Also try clearing the cache: https://macpaw.com/how-to/clear-cache-on-mac

Sounds like the graphics card is gone.

Break the bad news now to the client. At least, his photos are probably all there intact.

(If this issue was the hard disk, Apple very kindly display a flashing icon of a hard disk).

We cannot Boot into safe mode. It has the same issue when trying that, or any recovery mode boot.

Hopefully its not the on board graphics but i will keep that in mind, if anyone else has any other ideas that would be great.

Its not the video. All video is being displayed correctly. The graphics on screen are fine, its just that its booting to a white screen and we cannot access any recovery options.
Always do the SMC Reset and PRAM reset first.

SMC Reset
Shut off the Macbook pro
plug in the power
Press and hold the left shift control option keys, and press and hold the power button.
Release the keys.

PRAM Reset
Start thee Mac
Press and hold command option p r
Wait for 3 chimes.  Newer Macbook pros may not chime by default.  Look for the Apple logo to appear and disappear 3 times.

Once those 2 have completed, let the mac start.  Then try other things, such as safe mode if it's still not working.

In this case, you may want to runt Apple Diagnostics.
Start the Mac.
Hold the d key to let it boot into Diagnostics.
Run the diagnastics.

We ended up finding out the system had a bad SSD. Once we removed the ssd we were able to boot into Mac OS recovery and install a new HD. Something with the old HD was making the system hang when trying to boot to recovery.

Did the diagnostics tell you that?
