MS Exchange Transport on SBS 2011 will not start after removing MS Forefront from SBS 2011 server

MS Exchange Transport will not start after removing MS Forefront from SBS 2011 server

Hi I am running MS SBS 2011 Standard SP 1 server which Exchange will not send or receive emails.

I recently noted that I still had installed MS Forefront software trail version and as was not being used, I tried to uninstall it via control panel / program / add- remove software etc.  Since then Exchange has not worked.
At first this looked like an IPv6 issue  but soon realised that Forefront had not be properly uninstalled. I have the article https://www.experts-exchange.com/questions/24582063/SBS-2008-Exchange-Transport-service-Stops.html.  which I have followed and managed to correct some of the EVENT errors, but I still can't get the MS Exchange Transport to run and their seems to be a number of errors also happening with sharepoint (this might not have anything to do with Exchange not working.

I am not technical so need as much help as possible

I don't really know anything about SBS servers, but I would also suggest you check to see if you installed the July 2018 Microsoft patches. This has caused alot of issues for servers running Exchange. If that is the case you may be having I would either uninstall july patches or install the out of band patches microsoft released to fix the issues from the July patches. See the below link for more info on this.

Check the status of integration
fscutility /status

Stop transport service and disable integration using the below command. You have to navigate to "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Forefront Protection for Exchange Server" from a command prompt or PS.
fscutility /disable

Unfortunately you have discovered what so many others have with the trial Forefront product is that it breaks things when uninstalled.

One of the caveats is  to not install the trial piece at the very beginning if you are not going to use it.

This may help you to troubleshoot your issues:

David-Jolly,

Some experts have replied.  Is there anything else I may assist you with?

Hi All,

Thanks for helping me and sorry for the slow response but been on leave for the past few weeks.

I think that this has resolved getting rid of the MS Forefront components from the server.

Unfortunately,  I am now left with Event ID 5023 MSExchangeTransport - A transient configuration error was detected while the routing configuration was loading. Exception details: The local routing group object wasn't found. : Microsoft.Exchange.Transport.Categorizer.TransientRoutingException: The local routing group object wasn't found.
at Microsoft.Exchange.Transport.Categorizer.RoutingGroupRelayMap.ValidateConfig(ExchangeTopology topology, RawRoutingConfigData rawConfigData, DateTime timestamp)
   at Microsoft.Exchange.Transport.Categorizer.RoutingTables.ValidateConfig(RawRoutingConfigData rawConfigData)
   at Microsoft.Exchange.Transport.Categorizer.RoutingTables.PopulateTables(RawRoutingConfigData rawConfigData).

So the search for a final solution goes on...
